What is the Johari Window Technique?
Coaches use various techniques, such as the Johari Window, to help individuals become aware of their strengths and weaknesses, explore their relationships with others, and foster self-awareness.
The Johari Window was developed by two American psychologists in 1955 and consists of four areas that identify an individual’s strengths and weaknesses:
Areas of:
Openness/Unknown
Self/Others Knowledge seen
Hidden/Unknown to Others
Blind Spot
By examining these different areas within themselves, individuals can gain insight into how they interact with the world around them.
In a coaching context, the Johari Window can be used to help people become more aware of themselves and gain insight into how their behaviour affects both the people around them and their own performance in the workplace.
Coaches use this tool to help clients understand the areas that need improvement, as well as uncover hidden traits or talents they may have overlooked.
The Johari Window can also be used to explore relationships between employees and management, helping everyone involved become more conscious of how they interact with each other.
The Johari Window is a powerful tool when it comes to improving an individual’s self-awareness and performance in the workplace.
Coaches can use this technique to help individuals understand who they are and how they relate to the world around them, allowing them to become better equipped for success on the job.
