What’s it like to coach at More Happi? Kate’s transformative journey

Kate Schermbrucker’s coaching career was at a crossroads when she discovered More Happi. Despite her training, she felt she lacked confidence and didn’t yet feel like a “real” coach. In this inspirational story, hear Kate’s experience with More Happi and how it provided her the vital opportunity to not only accumulate coaching hours towards her accreditation, but to flourish and evolve into a self-assured professional able to proudly call herself a coach. This is Kate’s story:

Life before More Happi

Kate came to More Happi with one goal in mind: to accumulate enough coaching hours to obtain her ICF accreditation, the prestigious Associate Certified Coach (ACC). This requires a coach to have 100 hours of coaching, and involves incredibly tough exams.

Before More Happi, she wasn’t getting enough private clients and was starting to lose hope that she’d ever achieve her ACC. She needed a way to get those hours, but, more importantly, to grow her skills and confidence as a coach.

Starting Point

Initially, Kate lacked confidence as a coach and didn’t yet feel like a “real” coach. She joined want to help coachees take action and find balance, but initially struggled with her own confidence: “There was always this panic feeling…”

Her Experience with More Happi

Coaching through More Happi allowed Kate to rapidly build up her coaching hours and gain experience with a wide variety of clients across different backgrounds and ages. During her time there, she coached an impressive 64 people from 47 different organisations, holding an impressive 107 sessions in total.

The variety of coachees really helped fuel Kate’s growth. Previously, she only had coachees with careers behind them already or from her own professional background in teaching. With More Happi, she was coaching everyone from the most junior employee to the most senior. One of the best things about coaching with More Happi was being able “to experience coaching lots of different kinds of people… with More Happi I’ve had a lot of younger clients, which has been really fun.”

It also gave her the freedom to experiment with different niches, changing from confidence coaching to burnout coaching and, finally, to divorce and separation coaching. Experimenting like this was a result of coaching More Happi’s varied customer base.

The testimonials Kate received from her sessions were invaluable for building her confidence

Clients praised her ability to provide clarity, motivation and a calm presence, such as:

“Kate helps me digest certain situations and brings me lightbulb moments! She is very calm and understanding and makes light of things, which I really enjoy and find motivating.”

– Zinc

“My coach supported me to tackle a career review for my job which seemed overwhelming. She helped me to break it into manageable steps, and I feel more optimistic now.”

– Perlego

With an average feedback score of 4.83 out of 5, it’s clear Kate made a positive impact: “I came into the session looking for tools to help me prepare for a meeting with a CEO & my coach broke down the situation & my perception vs reality. I feel prepared & confident now ahead of the meeting.”

– Lintbells, Ltd.

During her time at More Happi, Kate squeezed every last drop of value out of her experience and the benefits on offer to her, regularly attending group supervision (a must for experienced coaches) and ‘Happi Hour’ training events.

Overall, though, knowing that she had support, somewhere to turn to when needed, was a massive thing for Kate, giving her the space and safety to solidify her coaching skills.

The result

By the time Kate left More Happi, she enthusiastically expressed how much she had grown as a coach. Her confidence had skyrocketed to the point where she could proudly call herself a “real” coach:

“Now I’m really confident about saying it. If someone says, what do you do? I used to say, I used to be a teacher. And now I say, I’m a coach quite confidently.”

She credited More Happi as an essential stepping stone that allowed her to accumulate enough hours and experience to further her coaching career:

“I don’t know how I would’ve plugged that gap between [my training at] Animas and ICF, I think I probably wouldn’t have made it. I don’t know where I would’ve got the clients from. This was a really important stepping stone to me being able to carry on.”

Overall, Kate’s time at More Happi helped transform her from a newer coach lacking confidence to a seasoned professional ready to build her own coaching business and practise with assuredness.
